Jerome "Jerry" A. Overberg, age 88, of Crystal City, MO entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his residence. Born on January 30, 1924, in New Baden, Illinois to the late Henry Frank and Lillian S.(Griesbaum) Overberg.
He is survived by his wife: Sandra "Sandy" (Kelley) Overberg of Crystal City, MO, sons: Rick (Norma) Overberg of Wentzville, MO, John (Sandy) Overberg of Pevely, MO, Jerry Michael (Rhonda) Overberg of Festus, MO, daughters: Patricia "Pat" (Steve)Ortmeyer of Lenexa, KS, Peggy (Bill) Herrell of Pevely, MO, Cindy (John Bliss) Laiben of Imperial, MO, Mary (Bruce) King of Herculaneum, MO and Shelley (Chuck) Otec of Crystal City, MO, stepson: Rob (Mary) Proffer of Festus, MO and stepdaughter: Debra Proffer, sister: Ardelle (the late Carl) Hill of Tuscan, CA, 32 grandchildren: Jay Ortmeyer, Craig Ortmeyer, Tracy (Jeremy) Warren, Brian (Emilie)Overberg, Elizabeth (Aaron) Hickox, Jonathan Overberg, Benjamin Overberg, Lisa Overberg, Bryan (Angie) Goforth, Laura (Pat) Costello, Amy (Jeffrey) John, Brendan (Maria) Herrell, Emily (John) Gass, Janelle (Derek) Wyatt, Michelle (Lance) Portell, Ashley (Nick Atkins) Overberg, Mike Kister, Mat Kister, Nathan (Angel) Overberg, Samantha Stormer, Christopher Laiben, Kelly (Dennis) Uding, Nicholas (Stacy) King, Lindsay King, Natalie King, Alex Otec, Kyle Otec, Chad Otec, Jena Otec, Caly Otec, Madison Proffer and Sydney Proffer, 23 great grandchildren: Avery, Abby, Nora, Bella, William, Parker, Avery, McClain, Griffin, August "Gus", Campbell, Oliver, Harper, Linley, Brynn, Christian, Camryn, Jayden, Brenna, Alaina, Maison, Taylor and Riley and daughter in law: Cindy Wall of Festus, MO. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children: Rita (Stolzer) Overberg, son: Kenny Overberg, and sisters: Ruth Buechting and Florence McBride.
Jerry was a self employed painting contractor and owner of Jeffco Decorating and Overberg Decorating. He served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army 612th Engineers. He helped coordinate reunions with this company until three years ago. There are now only four survivors of his WWII company. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Festus and a member Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Father Donald Dalton and Father Joseph Wormek will officiate services.
