POTOSI- Shirley Fay Trautwein, 71, of Potosi closed her eyes in this world and went home to be with Jesus and her parents on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at 10:25 am. at Mercy Jefferson Hospital in Festus.
She was born on April 13, 1946 at Halls, Tennessee, the second of four children to the late Robert Ray and Geneva (Slaughter) Canada. She later moved to Saint Louis, Missouri, where she met her husband and had three children.
Shirley was active in her community serving on the board at the Sayers Senior Center where she enjoyed organizing the Saturday night dances and spending time with the many dear friends she and Art had come to know and love. She loved to dance, listen to the music, and share stories about her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing FireFan, and connecting with family and friends on Facebook. But above all she was a devout Christian and spent a great amount of her time in prayer and scripture and was never shy about sharing the love of Jesus and her faith with others. She lived her life with a great love for God, her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Hartmut E. “Art” Trautwein, of Potosi, two sons, Erich A. “Rick” Trautwein and wife, Jessica and Mark E. Trautwein and wife, Sherril and a daughter Angela C. and husband, Patrick Weiss, all of Valles Mines, eleven grandchildren, Kaelyn “Crystal” (Trautwein) Sutton, Erich Trautwein, Tanner Trautwein and wife Sarah, John Weiss, Desiree Smith, Kimberly Smith, Erika Weiss, Sarah Trautwein, Emma Weiss, Abbey Weiss and Levi Trautwein, and two great-grandchildren, Averi Trautwein and Wade Tedder. She also leaves behind two brothers, Bill Canada and wife, Novie of Park Hills and Hirshel Canada and wife, Suzanne of Arnold and a sister Joyce and husband, Wayne Byrd of Sainte Genevieve and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends and neighbors.
We, her family, think of her passing like this: She has just moved away to a beautiful paradise and is waiting for us to move there too, but we are all stuck in traffic on our way there. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered. Thank you to all her extended family and to all who called her friend. Your thoughts, prayers, and kindness have held us together during this difficult time. God bless you all.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 10am-1pm at the New Heights Church in Farmington Missouri. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1pm, at the church with Pastor Rocky Good officiating. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Leadington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials, if desired, may be made to her spouse to help offset the cost of medical expenses incurred during her recent illness.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Mahn Funeral Home of DeSoto, MO. View obituary and leave condolences online at mahnfuneralhome.com
