Obituary
Paul A. Portell, 88, of DeSoto entered into eternal rest on September 22, 2019, at Crystal Oaks Nursing Center in Festus. Mr. Portell was a retired Salesman having worked many years for American Bakeries and also retired from Military Service with the U S Army. He was born on August 1, 1931 at Cadet, he was the son of the late Gilley F. and Pearl A. (Oster) Portell. He was a long-time and faithful member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in De Soto, and the De Soto Knights of Columbus Council 1185 where he served as the financial secretary for four years and was involved in numerous Knights of Columbus fundraisers including the whole hog dinners and Nativity Scene at Mahn Funeral Home. He was also a member of the De Soto Elks Lodge #689 where he served as Lodge Chaplain and was a lifetime member with the De Soto Amvets Post 48. He was a classic car enthusiast, enjoyed woodworking and golfing, a passion which he extended to start The Annual Jefferson County Alzheimer’s Golf Tournament, a cause to which he was greatly dedicated.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Juanita (Boyer) Portell. Two brothers: Rondell and Elwin Portell. Four sisters: Kathleen Welko, Adele Coleman, Sr Melanie Joseph and Virginia Hearst.

He is survived by six children: Wayne (Cathy) Portell of O’Fallon, IL., Richard (Susan) Portell of Longmont, CO., Dan (Suzanne) Portell of Branson, MO., Pamela Langan of De Soto, MO., Cheryl (Joe) Beffa of Festus, MO, Tina (Brad) Goodwin of Crystal City, MO., fifteen Grandchildren and fourteen Great Grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Arrangements were under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home De Soto.
