William Earl Cook, Sr, age 80 entered into rest Friday, March 27, 2020 at his Festus residence. Earl retired as maintenance engineer supervisor at Dow Chemical Company and for past 17 years he took care of the general maintenance at the Festus Taco Bell; he was a member of First United Methodist Church of Festus and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1957-1960. Earl was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall F.& A.M. of Missouri, had served in public office as a Ward 1 Festus City Councilman and as Festus Mayor from 2009-2010. He was president of the Cultural Diversity organization, treasurer of Giving Something Back to the Community and also served on the Festus-Crystal City Chamber of Commerce Tourism Board and the Festus Public Water Board. He was a recipient of the Festus Twin City 2014 Distinguished Service Award and he was recently inducted into the 2020 Festus High School Hall of Fame. Born August 14, 1939, in Festus, to the late Allen and Mildred Amanda (Gill) Cook.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Rhonda Kay (Burgess) Abbas-Cook, sons, William Earl (Leslee) Cook, Jr of Festus, Chikosi Cook of Festus, Syed Ali Abbas of Chicago, IL, daughters, Tamyka (George Stack) Cook of Festus, Lea (Nathan) Hamilton of Overland, Kaniz (Matt Kemp) Abbas of Crystal City, Alishah Abbas of Festus, brother, Roland ( Patricia) Cook of Seattle, WA, sisters, JoAnn Bond of St Louis, Carol Dixon of St Louis, Brenda Cook of St Louis, best friend, Alvin Riney of St Louis, 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, and two of the way, numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen (Ford) Cook in 1971, daughter, Diana Cook, brothers, Myron Cook, Charles Cook, Robert Cook, Stacy Cook, Terry Cook, sisters, Dorothy (he late Spencer) Bland and Marie Elizabeth Cook.
***In honor and to pay respects to Earl and his family there will be a drive by procession at the funeral home from 12-2 pm Saturday, April 4, 2020.
