Paul Frederick Carter of Festus passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020 at his home at the age of 82 years. He was born on March 6, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of the late Oval M. and Jane (Wallace) Carter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Beulah (Petty) Carter, a brother Roy Carter and two sisters Helen Jean Ray and Kathy Whitworth and a grandson Levi Carter.
Paul proudly served in the United States Army from 1955-1958 and he was in the Navy Reserves. After his time in the service he was employed as a Pipefitter- Welder and was a member of Pipefitters Local 562. He was a long-time and faithful member of the Festus Church of the Nazarene. He was involved in the FCN Bus ministry his greatest accomplishments included his missionary trips to Belize, Brazil and two to Ecuador, his love of music which lead him to performing concerts all over. Paul was a talented vocalist and enjoyed singing for his church and his family and friends. He was also a gifted artist and loved to paint in his spare time.
Paul will be missed by all those who knew and loved him including his beloved wife of 61 years, Sara L. “Sandy” (Smith) Carter of Festus, two sons, Steven Paul Carter and wife Karen of Festus and Richard Dean Carter of New Castle, Indiana, two daughters, Tammy Lynn Mace and husband Brian Head of Festus and Starla Suzanne Wideman and husband Brian of Festus, a brother Robert Carter of Villa Ridge, a sister Barbara Robinson of Gray Summit, MO; 12 grandchildren, Nicole, Frank, Sandy, Emma, Aaron, Brianna, Jessica, Zack, Molly, Logan, Adam and Sam, 13 great-grandchildren, his companion Smokey the cat, and numerous other relatives, dear friends and neighbors.
He had a smile for everyone and never met a stranger. He had an infectious sense of humor. He will be missed dearly.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus with a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. officiated by the Reverends Terry Simpkins and Howard Casteel. Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
