William Alvin "Bill" Rutledge, 76, formerly of Pevely, Missouri, entered into rest August 8, 2011 at his Birch Tree, Missouri residence. Born February 18, 1935 in Thomasville, Missouri to the late Ralph Willard and Artamissa Elsie (Holland) Rutledge.
Bill graduated from Birch Tree High School. He furthered his education at Jefferson College and later at Worsham College of Mortuary Science; he served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Marilyn (Birkenmeier) Rutledge; children: Angela (Kevin) Holt of Hillsboro, MO, Deanne (Randall) Sackman of Festus, MO, Tim (Lisa) Rutledge of Hillsboro, MO, Robin Bonds of St Louis, MO and Zach (Carissa) Rutledge of Mountain View, MO; siblings: Edna Touhill of Van Buren, MO, Luella and Don Humphrey of DeSoto, MO, Pat Rutledge of Mountain View, MO and Fred Sanchez of California, Glen and Ethel Rutledge of Birch Tree, MO and Kathleen and Jim Burks of Mountain View, MO; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Willard; several aunts and uncles; one niece and two nephews.
He was employed by American Can Company in Pevely, MO for 30 years. He also served as a funeral director/embalmer for Lemme Funeral Home and Mahn Funeral Home in Festus, MO for 20 years. He was involved with Boy Scouts from 1965-2004. He was Master of Amvets in Antonia for many years and also a Mason from 1964-present and efficient in five Lectures. He served the Church of Latter-day Saints for many years and held many offices in the church. He was an avid woodcarver.
Masonic Service will be Friday, August 12, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. at Yarber Mortuary.
